Help save KPRC 2, Texas history: Here’s how to donate your old A/V equipment to help preservation effort

The Texas Archive of the Moving Image is calling for donations of video decks and other equipment in the organization’s undertaking of preserving Texas’ digital history, which includes thousands of archived KPRC 2 tapes.

The non-profit organization is seeking donations for its first-ever Equipment Roundup, which is a call for various video equipment to be used in its free digitization program, the Texas Film Roundup. TAMI provides free digitization of Texas films and videos in exchange for the donation of a copy of the content for the organization’s digital archive.

According to a Facebook post by the organization, it is currently in the process of digitizing tens of thousands of KPRC 2’s archived collection of tapes.

You can help TAMI preserve our station’s history by donating your equipment. Even if it’s no longer functioning, the organization said it can use the equipment parts. According to TAMI, these are the equipment it is primarily seeking:

  • 8mm format video cameras (all formats)
  • 3/4″ (U-matic) decks
  • D2 decks
  • 1200 ft 8mm or S8 reels
  • Cleaning tapes of ANY format
  • MiniDV cameras or decks
  • Digibeta decks
  • VCRs
  • DVCam Camcorders
  • Patch Bay Equipment
  • Time Base Correctors
