Clara Harris, Friendswood dentist infamously known for fatally running over husband, now off parole

GATESVILLE, Texas – Clara Harris, a Friendswood woman who was released from jail five years ago after serving 15 years for killing her husband, is now off parole, according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice officials.

Harris, now 65, was completely freed from state monitoring on Feb. 10.

“Her parole ended today. She has no more obligations with TDCJ,” said TDCJ’s Robert Hurst.

The case captured headlines around the world after the Lake Jackson area dentist ran over her husband, Dr. David Harris, several times with her car in the parking lot of a Nassau Bay hotel. Police say she drove her silver Mercedes over his body multiple times, even stopping on top of him, ultimately causing his death while his daughter was sitting in the passenger side of her vehicle.

Before the attack on July 24, 2002, detectives say the suspicious wife hired a private investigator to follow her husband of 10 years, who she believed was having an affair with one of his former employees.

That investigator ultimately videotaped her husband’s dying moments after Harris confronted him and his mistress inside the hotel lobby.

The fight moved outside, where things turned deadly.

The scorned woman told KPRC 2 cameras, “It was an accident,” as she walked away in cuffs.

Harris was convicted of murder and found to have acted in sudden passion on Feb. 14, 2003, and sentenced to 20 years, 15 of which were served.

After her 2018 release from state prison, she was then granted five years of parole.

It is unclear what her plans are for the next chapter of her life.
