KPRC 2 Senior Scholarship: East Chambers HS senior diagnosed with ADHD at 5 years old to pursue degree in education

KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships in 2023. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

The first $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Haydon Cooke who is currently a senior at East Chambers High School in the East Chambers School District.

In high school, Cooke overcame a lot of challenges but still somehow manages to participate in extracurricular activities such as the band, being a drum major, the yearbook committee and being a member of the National Honor Society.

Despite being diagnosed with ADHD at 5 years old, Cooke pushed through school and managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA and become the second-ranked student in his senior class of 110 students.

Cooke has been accepted into Stephen F. Austin State University where he will pursue a degree in education with a minor in theatre and psychology. He says his goal is to help kids.
