SPRING, Texas – A suspect accused of burglarizing a home two weeks ago and then coming back to steal a vehicle is now in custody after a chase with police, officers with the Houston Police Department said.

Officers received reports of a tracked vehicle in the 5000 block of Sweet Chestnut Lane around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the victim’s home was burglarized two weeks ago and the keys to their pickup truck were taken. Investigators said the suspect came back to the home and stole the pickup truck from the driveway.

Police said the victim was able to track the vehicle via an app and notified HPD. Officers found the vehicle on the freeway and reportedly attempted to stop the suspect. The suspect then fled and a pursuit began, police said.

Investigators said the suspect drove to the Spring area, where he bailed on foot from the vehicle.

According to HPD, the suspect began jumping into people’s backyards and was eventually caught near a retention pond. He was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
