Update: Man charged after 31-year-old shot, killed while trying to drive infant away from shooting scene, police say

HOUSTON – A man was arrested and charged after being accused of fatally shooting a driver while an infant was inside the vehicle, according to the Houston Police Department.

Grayson McGowan, 31, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 31-year-old Timothy George.

The shooting was reported on July 10 around 1:10 p.m. in the 12300 block of Hillcroft Avenue.

Police said George was in a convenience store parking lot when the suspect began shooting at him. George had an infant in his car and attempted to drive away after suffering a gunshot wound. Shortly after, George reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into several vehicles.

Police said George was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital by paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

The baby was not injured in the shooting or crash, according to police.

On July 11, surveillance photos were released to the public in an attempt to identify the suspect in this case. Some time during the investigation, police identified the suspect as McGowan and, on Tuesday, he was arrested by HPD South Gessner Patrol Division officers and charged for his alleged role in the incident.
