Pro-life prayer vigil held outside Houston Planned Parenthood

HOUSTON – Dozens of people gathered for a pro-life prayer vigil on Wednesday evening, which took place outside of a Planned Parenthood facility in Houston.

“We know that we have opposition and my faith as a Catholic calls me to be here,” said Cypress resident Anna Pitts.

She made her position on abortion clear.

“It’s wrong in any way, shape or form,” Pitts said. “Abortion should not exist.”

Some people prayed and sang. Some in the crowd held signs that said “Roe must go!”

“I recognize and affirm the inherent value of every human person no matter how old or what they may be, or what their size is, or whether society finds them convenient or inconvenient,” said Laurence White, a pastor who spoke at the event.

The crowd gathered a little more than a week after a draft opinion was leaked from the Supreme Court indicating Roe vs. Wade may be overturned. That news prompted protests near Houston City Hall last week.

The vice president weighed in as the U.S. Senate failed to advance an abortion rights bill on Wednesday.

“The majority of the American people believe in defending a woman’s right, her choice, to decide what happens to her own body,” Vice President Kamala Harris said.

Melaney A. Linton, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, said in a statement to KPRC 2, in part, “We are here for our patients and we are not going anywhere. Planned Parenthood will never stop standing up for the rights of individuals to make personal medical decisions that are best for themselves, their families, and their futures.”
