Baby Buc-ee’s in West Texas is no more, reports say

The iconic signage of Buc-ee's, Texas' beloved chain of roadside convenience stores, appeared on a little white structure alongside a West Texas highway. Pictured is a screengrab of an Instagram post by Matt Tumlinson. (Photo by Matt Tumlinson)

The tiny Buc-ee’s we told you about in a tiny town in West Texas is no more, according to reports.

Texas Monthly and Visit Marathon have both said the building remains, but no remnants of the beaver-based chain remain on the structure.

It’s a sad state of events, but a fun enigma of Marathon --population around 400 -- still. Here is the message of remembrance from the local tourism group, Visit Marathon Texas, on Facebook:

“It’s true. Tiny Buc-ee’s is gone... 😔The building still stands but all traces of its existence have been removed. @shesabrickvault , head brew master Brick Vault Brewery & BBQ] snapped this picture a few days ago.

“Amy somberly stated via text that if you look close enough, you can still see the traces of epoxy left over after the iconic Buc-ee’s] signage was removed.

“Kölsch may or may not have been poured out in honor of its short life...”

There’s no word on when the art went up or who the anonymous artist is who created the mini location of the beloved gas station chain.

However, we like the plucky spirit of the place and its people. Not everyone would create a faux Buc-ee’s out of nothingness. That’s greatness. Rest in peace, tiny Buc-ee’s you will be missed.
