Suspect shot by HPD officer in northwest Houston took weapon inside of business, officials say

HOUSTON – A suspect has been taken to the hospital after he was shot during an officer-involved shooting Saturday afternoon in northwest Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting took place in the 700 block of West Mount Houston Road near Veteran Memorial around 5:50 p.m.

Officers say the suspect had gone inside a business and began harassing people. He was reportedly told to leave before police were called to the establishment.

When authorities arrived, they say they found the suspect sitting inside the business with a gun on the table.

Officers allegedly gave the man a series of commands before he lunged toward that gun, which HPD referred to as an ‘Uzi’, causing officers to open fire.

The suspect was struck by gunfire.

He was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.
