Employees return to work after supervisor was shot and killed on the job; Neighbors reflect on victim’s legacy

HOUSTON – The 20 Greenway building, which was the scene of a deadly shooting Wednesday, is back open and some employees have returned to work.

Meanwhile, those who knew the victim are finding it hard to focus on anything other than his death.

”It’s just too close to home. It’s just too close to home,” said one neighbor who did not want to be identified.

She is part of the community left with more questions than answers after a Doran Kelly, described as a loving father, husband, and friendly neighbor was fatally shot in the head while at work.

Kelly was a supervisor at Cedar Gate Technologies in the building located at 3800 Cummins Street.

The suspected gunman, one of Kelly’s employees, was identified as 26-year-old Montavius Wright. Those who worked with him said he did not appear to be having problems at work.

Wright was arrested a few hours later outside of his downtown high-rise apartment building. He’s now charged with first-degree felony murder as police try to determine his motive.

Neighbors say they have no idea who would ever want to harm Kelly.

”Just a good neighbor. Just a good guy. Never seen him raise his voice [or] lose his temper. Just a very cool, even-keeled, very nice guy,” the neighbor said.

Wright was given a $500,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the 20 Greenway building, his coworkers, and the victim’s family.
