Kia is expected to recall more than 400,000 vehicles due to a fault in the air bag system.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Board released a report on Jan. 25 that contact between a control unit and a memory chip on the circuit board in the vehicles may be defective, resulting in damaged electrical units that operate airbag deployment, USA Today reported.

As a result, the risk of injury increases if the airbags do not deploy in a crash impact, the NHTSB said in their report.

The company is set to recall the following models:

  • 2017 Forte Koup
  • 2017-2018 Kia Forte
  • 2017-2019 Kia Sedona
  • 2017-2019 Kia Soul
  • 2017-2019 Kia Soul EV

Anyone who owns any of the above-listed models can visit their local Houston-area dealership to get their airbag systems checked, and if possible, replaced at no cost.

Kia is expected to send out recall notices to owners beginning sometime in March, according to USA Today.
