2 crashes on I-10 in Waller County cause shutdown in both directions, authorities say

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – Two crashes on I-10 in Waller County have shut down the freeway in both directions Wednesday morning, authorities say.

Authorities said part of I-10 was shut down around 1:30 a.m. after a wrong-way fiery crash involving a pickup truck and tractor-trailer.

The crash happened after the driver of a pickup truck was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-10 and struck a tractor-trailer head-on at Peach Ridge Road, deputies said.

According to deputies, the pickup truck driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Authorities are investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The second crash involved two semi-trucks on I-10 West and FM 1498, authorities said.

Deputies said one semi-truck rear-ended another semi-truck, trapping the driver in the vehicle. Firefighters and wreckers said they were able to free the man from the wreckage.

The man was transported by Waller County EMS to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area due to traffic delays.
