Investigation underway after 3-year-old child dies from injuries, police say

HOUSTON – Police are investigating after a 3-year-old child died from injuries in the Sharpstown area, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers responding to a call of a person down at 4:24 p.m. at the Happy Village Apartments.

Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner said the boy’s mother received a call from relatives inside the unit that the boy was unresponsive from some type of injury. Investigators did not offer any details on the nature of the injury.

When the mother returned home, a neighbor performed CPR on the boy before he was taken to the hospital.

“We do not know the cause of death. We don’t know if it’s foul play and I don’t want to speculate on it but very sadly a three-year-old is dead,” Finner said.

The boy lived at the home with his mother and several relatives or friends, police said.

Finner vowed to get to the bottom of what happened and said police are treating the area as a crime scene until they do.

“We got a three-year-old dead and anybody that knows me, Chief Acevedo and our entire department, we take it very seriously and very personally,” Finner said.

Police have several people of interest that were detained but Finner said investigators still need more information.
