Local gymnast hit, killed by truck while riding bicycle in Conroe

CONROE, Texas – A mangled bicycle lay strewn in the middle of FM 1488 near Pin Oak Drive Saturday after the 29-year-old man riding it was hit by a pickup truck, thrown to the street and killed.

Michael Deluke, who was on his way to work, was taken to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands, where he was pronounced dead, investigators said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram that struck Deluke was not injured.

Witnesses reported to police that Deluke was riding his bike eastbound along the shoulder of the road around 8:30 a.m. He glanced over his shoulder before trying to cross to the westbound side, when he was hit by the oncoming truck, witnesses reported.

Police said the driver, who was going about 50 mph, was not impaired.

Deluke worked as a gymnastics coach. He posted some of his work to his YouTube page.
