Klein ISD investigating bullying claims at elementary school

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A mother is filing a formal complaint with Klein Independent School District after her son said other students bullied him on a school bus and the driver did nothing about it.

Malachi Sharp, a fifth-grader at Klenk Elementary School, said the bullying incident happened on the bus Tuesday morning, starting with harassment by one boy.

"I tried to ignore him. He started cursing me out so I tried to ignore him," Malachi said.

Malachi said he asked the driver if he could stay up front.

"He started yelling at me and told me to go back to the back of the bus," he said.

That's where he said two students attacked him.
"He grabbed my arms and threw me like this but it was on the bus and punched me in my eye," said Malachi.
"I feel like my son's best interest was not in mind," said his mother, Candy Sharp.

She said said this isn't the first time her son has been bullied and she wants to get to the root of the problem.

"I think it has affected my son's self-esteem. He's emotional. He's crying a lot. He tells me all the time he doesn't want to go to school," Sharp said.

Klein ISD sent KPRC a statement that said:

"The school administration and the Klein ISD police are currently investigating the incident as the nature of the allegations by this parent have not been substantiated. All prior reported incidents termed by the parent as bullying were taken seriously, thoroughly investigated and action was promptly taken."

Sharp said she's waiting on the district to give her permission to move her son to another school. She's meeting with school officials next Thursday.
