HOUSTON – Moments after New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady claimed his fifth championship ring, he discovered his game jersey was missing from the locker room.
Houston Police Department’s Major Offenders squad is leading the charge to find it.
“We've heard that media is reporting that the jersey could be worth up to $500,000 of value for its significance, so we deem this a pretty important case,” said HPD Executive Assistant Chief George Buenik.
The police department is putting its top investigators on the case.
They’re in the process of assembling a list of everyone who had access to the locker room on game night, from the players and the coaches to the team’s support staff and members of the media.
“They would be possible suspects. We're in the process of obtaining some video that may or may not have captured it,” Buenik said.
Access to the locker room was controlled by two members of the Patriots security team.
A special credential is needed to get inside.
“There is a Houston police officer that is stationed outside that locker room. Even Houston police officers are not allowed in there,” Buenik said.
The number of people who had access to the locker room Sunday night is still not clear.
Though no one filed a police report, police say they do plan to interview Brady at some point.
