Fort Bragg soldier charged in 2013 Cypress rape arrives in Harris County

HOUSTON – A Fort Bragg soldier who was charged earlier this month in connection with the 2013 kidnapping and rape of a girl in Cypress arrived in Harris County on Tuesday.

Jail records showed that Levi Goss, 24, was booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and aggravated kidnapping. Goss appeared in Harris County Magistrate Court on Tuesday with his attorney.

"I know he's scared, obviously," said George Parnham, Goss' attorney. "He's an individual who is back in jail and that's scary to anybody."

Investigators said Goss attacked and raped a girl near a movie theater on Feb. 5, 2013. She was left for dead in a field, investigators said.

DNA was collected after the attack and submitted to a nationwide database, investigators said. A match was found on Dec. 12, 2017, when Goss’ DNA surfaced as part of an investigation by military police into a different sexual assault.

A Harris County grand jury later indicted Goss. A judge set bond at $500,000 for each of the two charges he faces in Harris County.

Goss' attorney said $1 million in bonds was unfair.

"Fairness is not in the mind of the beholder, it's whether or not he can make that bond, which, of course, he's not going to be able to," Parnham said.

Parnham told KPRC2 he plans to appeal for a lesser bond once Goss appears before a judge in Harris County Criminal District Court.

According to a spokesperson from Fort Bragg, Goss is a private first class who enlisted on Feb. 16, 2016. He is a parachute rigger in the 82nd Airborne Division. His home of record is Port Neches, Texas.
