English bulldogs saved from burning home

HOUSTON – For Lola and Luchi, the dogs days of summer are here and they have taken on a whole new meaning. Though Luchi is a bit dehydrated, the pair of English Bulldogs is happy as can be, but most importantly safe, thanks to a quick thinking good Samaritan who alerted Houston firefighters after a house fire broke out Thursday morning in southeast Houston.

According to the Houston Fire Department, it happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Edmunson Street near Hadley.

The homeowners said a good Samaritan saw smoke coming from their house and called authorities.

When firefighters arrived, they searched the home and found a dog inside. The homeowners told them there was still another dog missing.

"We couldn't see Luchi, and that's when we told them there was another dog," the dog's owner, Dalilah Valdez, said. "That's when they rushed back in to get the other dog. When they came out, I was so happy."

The owners are beyond grateful. The fire, which may have been electrical, didn’t cause any major damage and two of the biggest blessings in their lives are safe and sound.

“I'm glad no one was in there and the dogs were fine,” Valdez said.

Both Luchi and Lola were unharmed.

Valdez says she is so glad the good Samaritan called firefighters before it was too late for her dogs.

The official cause of the fire is unknown. Valdez believes it started under the house.
