GALVESTON, Texas – A dog attack in Galveston was caught on camera Friday.
The person who posted the video, Sean Brookins, said the woman suffered "significant" injuries.
The attack happened on 14th Street, Brookins said.
Witnesses said it started when a pit bull mix took aim at a dachshund. The fight ended with the dog turning its attention to the dachshund's owner.
"I was just freaking out. Because I was just trying to help the dog. But I wasn't expecting the dog to launch at the lady like that," Joe Hernandez said.
Hernandez works at the body shop only feet away from where the attack happened.
The body shop's cameras captured what's believed to be the couple casually walking their dachshund moments before the attack.
When it all unfolded, Hernandez jumped into action to help out.
"There was no letting go. He already had my two fingers in his mouth. So we were still beating him and beating him and beating him," Hernandez said.
Just across the street, Kristine Spicer heard the commotion and also rushed out to do what she could.
"At that moment, all I can think about was trying to push the dog away with whatever long tool you have available," Spicer said.
Spicer said after what felt like a few minutes of the attack, the group of people were finally able to get the dog off the woman by beating the dog with boards and sticks.
"It was terrifying, there was a lot of blood. It all happened so fast," Spicer said.
The pit bull mix was later picked up by animal control and the woman it attacked was rushed to the hospital.
Now, those who came to her aid are left praying she makes a full recovery.
"I hope and pray the woman, her husband and their little dog is OK," Spicer said.
Animal control now has possession of the dog, although its fate remains unclear or if any possible charges could result from the attack.
