Medical examiner to perform autopsy on body believed to be that of missing College Station girl

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Galveston County Medical Examiner is expected to perform an autopsy on the body of a child found Wednesday, Oct. 31, in Texas City.

Though the body has not yet been identified, police believe it could be missing College Station 2-year-old Hazana Anderson, but results from the autopsy could take weeks to come back.

According to authorities, the body was discovered 140 miles away from the park where Hazana’s mother reported her missing on Sunday. Tiaundra Christon, 21, has been jailed in Brazos County since Monday on charges of making a false report and child endangerment.

Child Protective Services said Christon didn't have any prior history or incidents.

Shortly after the body was found, the mother’s boyfriend was arrested Wednesday, records show.

Kenny D'Shawn Hewett, 32, was arrested for a charge of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair a human corpse, according to jail records.

The Galveston County Sheriff's Office said Hewett is connected to Hazana’s case. Hewett, who is listed as a Houston resident, is being held on a $500,000 bond, jail records show.

In College Station, Hazana's father said that the past five days have felt like a bad dream.

Tabodrick Anderson said he’s been holding onto memories and the last time he saw his little girl. The toddler had been missing since Sunday, but Anderson said that his hope for her safe return ran out after a phone call on Wednesday.

“I was informed by investigators that the mother of my child, along with a boyfriend's stories, both corroborated to the location where they found the remains of my daughter,” he said.

Anderson said that their relationship was sometimes strained but all he can do now is wait.

KPRC2 spoke with Hewitt’s mother off camera, who said her son “didn’t do it.” However, Hewitt’s track record is far from pristine. He has a long criminal history and been arrested multiple times.
