HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities are investigating a shooting involving an off duty deputy that left a man injured at an apartment complex in north Harris County, deputies said.
According to officials, the off-duty deputy was working as a security guard for the apartment complex in an area with a high rate of drug-related issues around 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of Ella Boulevard and Barren Spring Drive.
Officials said the deputy spotted a man in his late teens to early 20s sitting on an air conditioning unit who had drugs and a 9-millimeter pistol out in the open.
The deputy walked up to the man, who then reached for his gun, deputies said. The off-duty deputy fired multiple shots.
The suspect was hit once in the leg and a bullet flew across the street, which broke the window of a MetroPCS.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
Deputies said the suspect faces possession and trespassing charges.
