3 Church's Chicken employees badly burned after floor collapses

LIVINGSTON, Texas – Video taken inside the restaurant right after the floor collapse - shows all the destruction.

Three workers were in the back when it happened. Firefighters said after the floor caved in, the fryer tipped over, sending scalding hot grease everywhere.

The employees were badly burned, including Erica Acevedo.

Her sister, Angela Galan, spoke to KPRC outside the hospital.

"She's gonna need skin grafts," Galan said. "They've done surgeries, but she has several more to go."

Acevedo has burns over 50 percent of her body.

Her family says the 26-year-old single mother started working at Church's Chicken as a second job to make a little extra money for her son's back-to-school clothes and to help pay off her car.

"She just recently went back not even a week ago and started picking up hours," Galan said. "It's just not right."

The family wants to know why the floor collapsed in the first place. They believe the incident could have been prevented.

The Livingston fire chief said the incident is under investigation and OSHA is involved.
