OU investigating QB John Mateer after leaked Venmo transaction history reveals ‘sports gambling’ purchases Mateer calls transactions ‘inside jokes’

John Mateer found himself in hot water Monday night after his transaction history on Venmo was leaked on social media.
The presumed starting quarterback at the University of Oklahoma started trending after his purchase history included the phrase “sports gambling,” with one transaction even referencing a specific college football game in 2022.
Tuesday morning, OU announced it was aware of the transactions and was “handling” the situation.
Mateer also denied the validity of the accusations, per On3 Oklahoma insider George Stoia III:
“Mateer made it clear to the school that he has never gambled,” Stoia said.
Tuesday afternoon, Mateer released a statement on X, denying the allegations and calling the descriptions inside jokes:
