Man shot in face during apparent road rage incident, deputies say

HOUSTON – A man was shot in the face Wednesday in what authorities described as an apparent incident of road rage in the Willowbrook area of Harris County.

The shooting was reported about 2:20 p.m. on Cutten Road near Bourgeois Road.

Deputy Thomas Gilliland, of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, said the driver of a box truck and the driver of a dark-colored sedan each said the driver of the other vehicle cut them off while they were driving south on State Highway 249 near Beltway 8.

Both vehicles exited the freeway and stopped at a stop sign. Gilliland said that was when a man in the sedan got out of the car, walked up to the box truck and started trying to open the driver’s side door. The driver of the box truck pulled out a gun and shot the man in the face, Gilliland said.

Gilliland said the wounded man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and was listed in critical condition. The man is expected to survive, Gilliland said.

The driver of the box truck has a concealed carry license, Gilliland said.

Gilliland said the case will be presented to a grand jury to decide if charges should be filed.
