Lockouts at Clear Lake schools lifted after no gun-wielding man found, police say

Reports of a man with a gun near a Clear Creek Independent School District campus Friday prompted lockouts at five schools while police investigated.

According to the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office, deputies responded to reports of a man with a handgun walking near Clear Lake Intermediate School about 11 a.m. The man was reported to have gotten in a white Toyota minivan and drove southbound on El Camino Real.

Clear Lake Intermediate School, Ward Elementary School, Clear Lake Elementary School, Falcon Pass Elementary School, Armand Bayou Elementary School and Space Center Intermediate School were placed in lockout mode, which means no one is allowed in or out of the building while the investigation is ongoing.

Police investigated for more than an hour before sounding the all-clear. All lockouts were lifted about 12:45 p.m.

Houston police said in a tweet that the suspicious man was not found. Precinct 8 deputy constables said they were also unable to find the man.

Authorities said they will remain in the area as a precaution.
