'It has happened before:' Bar owner speaks after woman drives into building

A woman was injured after police say she drove into a bar near downtown Houston.

According to authorities, the accident happened around 1 a.m. Monday near Washington Avenue and Hemphill Street.

The driver of a Ford Mustang lost control of her vehicle and veered on the road on Washington, slamming into the Darkhorse Tavern bar, police said.

Officials said there were customers inside at the time of the incident, but no one was hurt.

According to bar manager Paul Maira, this is not the first time someone has driven into the building.

“It happened one time before,” Maira said. “A young lady had gotten run off the road and she hit the post (that runs power to the bar). We had some sort of warning we had a small brownout right before it happened. She hit directly with the door is at.”

The woman was semi-unconscious when officials arrived on the scene, police said.

She was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Police will be testing to see if she was under the influence or just suffered some sort of medical issue.
