Car burglaries prompt lockdown at 2 La Marque schools, officials say

LA MARQUE, Texas – A man who was breaking into cars Wednesday near two La Marque schools prompted officials to lock down the facilities.

Officials at the Texas City Independent School District said in a tweet that La Marque High School and La Marque Middle School were in lockdown because of an investigation being conducted by La Marque police.

When the lockdowns were lifted about half an hour later, officials said someone noticed a man breaking into cars in the parking lot of the high school and called authorities. When deputies arrived, the man ran toward the school. He was later arrested.

The man never entered the school, officials said.

Ambulances at the school were called because of a separate medical issue that happened about the same time as the lockdowns, officials said.
