Honey Smacks will be back on shelves soon

(Kellogg's)

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Kellogg's has announced that Honey Smacks cereal will be back on shelves in the U.S. in limited quantities.

The popular honey-flavored puffed wheat cereal was pulled from shelves last June due to a salmonella outbreak. Illnesses were reported in more than 30 states. The FDA and CDC were involved in monitoring the situation.

Along with Kellogg's bringing the cereal back, there will be some changes. Kellogg's said this new batch of Honey Smacks is being made with a new recipe described as "simpler and updated."

The production facility for this newer Honey Smacks is also different for the relaunch of this cereal.

Honey Smacks has been around since 1953.
