PEARLAND, Texas – A former Pearland police sergeant is accused of placing a video camera inside a bathroom to take images of a juvenile female, court documents show.
Jon Matherne, 52, has since been arrested and charged with invasive recording, Pearland police said.
A family member reported to authorities that Matherne had placed the hidden camera in the bathroom and he admitted it when the family member confronted him about it, according to documents.
When confronted by authorities, Matherne "took full responsibility for what has happened," documents show. He said that he ordered the camera in 2017 for an alternative purpose, but said "the camera did record naked images of a juvenile female in a bathroom," documents show.
Matherne has been employed with the city since 1996 and has since resigned from the department, officials said.
Police said Matherne was taken into custody and transported to the Brazoria County Jail, and was released on a $3,000 bond.
