1 killed, 1 injured in shooting at west Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON – A body was found after a shooting at an apartment complex in west Houston, police said.

The shooting was reported about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Overbrook Lane and Gray Falls Drive.

Houston police said a caller reported that someone had been shot. Witnesses said they heard as many as four gunshots.

Police said officers found the body of Christian Chapman, 24, outside the apartment. A second person, who is believed to be Chapman's roommate, was injured and driven to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

A red Chevy sedan was towed away from the crime scene. The vehicle belongs to the roommate's friend.

One man was put in handcuffs and taken into police custody, but investigators did not say whether that arrest was in connection with the shooting.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting.

Residents, including Greg Lloyd, who was walking his dog when it happened, said they are tired of the violence and hope people put down the guns.

"I grew up in a rough neighborhood, so I kind of migrated to get away from the pain, from the insanity, but you can't run. You can't hide. It's just part of life nowadays," Lloyd said. "It's scary. It could have been my family."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
