HOUSTON – Officers engaged in a brief standoff with a man they were trying to arrest Tuesday at a southwest Houston business, police said.

The incident was reported about 12:50 p.m. near the intersection of Ramus Street and McAllister Road.

Capt. Larry Baimbridge, of the Houston Police Department, said the officers were trying to arrest the man on a felony warrant in connection with a choking incident involving his wife.

Baimbridge said the man refused to come out when police arrived, and SWAT officers and negotiators were called in. The negotiators talked the man into surrendering, he said.

No injuries were reported.
