Rare Texas license plates up for auction
No description foundHOUSTON – A few rare license plates are up for auction.
The auction closes on Feb. 28.
Texas' vendor for marketing license plates will be holding the first single-digit license plate auction in state history.
Three plates are available.
Plates with "3," "8" and "J" will be up for grabs.
Each plate comes with an initial five-year term. The owner has first right of renewal once the term expires.
Here is a look at some of the other highly coveted plates in tag history:
"12THMAN" sold for $115,000 in September 2013, making it the most expensive plate message in Texas.
"HOUSTON" sold for $25,000 in January 2013.
"ROCKETS" sold for $16,500 in January 2013.
"FERRARI" sold for $15,000 in January 2011.
"COWBOYS" sold for $11,500 in January 2011.
"ALAMO" sold for $10,250 in March 2016.
"12" sold for $6,250 in November 2016.
"1969" sold for $5,250 in August 2017.
"1836" sold for $5,250 in May 2016.
"AUSTIN" sold for $4,900 in November 2016.
"F1" sold for $4,300 in November 2015.
