HOUSTON – Residents in eight units are displaced from their apartments after a two-alarm fire.
It happened just happened just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive near West Gulf Bank, Houston Fire Department Deputy Chief Mike Sangl said.
The fire started on the second floor of the apartment building, causing extensive damage to four units while four additional sustained water and smoke damage, Sangl said
Residents evacuated safely, Sangl said. He believes everyone was able to escape, but will be checking the units regardless.
Two residents had "splatter burns" when crews arrived and were treated for those injuries, but were not transported to the hospital, Sangl said.
Crews are working to learn how the fire started. A fire marshal is also heading to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Eight fire engines and four ladder trucks all responded to the apartment.Â
Crews are working with the landlord of the complex to see if residents can be relocated to vacant apartments at the complex, Sangl said.
