NE Houston church damaged by extensive flooding to reopen for Sunday service

Volunteers work to clean Grace Cathedral Church

HOUSTON – A Northeast Houston church that suffered significant flood damage due to Harvey is set to reopen for Sunday services.

Volunteers worked around-the-clock to clean up Grace Cathedral Church in the 9400 block of Mesa Drive.

They ripped out damaged flooring, dried out the building, picked up debris and threw out water-logged supplies.

Charles H. Taylor Sr., senior pastor at the church, said he is grateful for Houstonians coming together to help.

"We have people coming in from other places who aren't members, and they were instrumental in what we're doing," said Taylor. "When things get down, Houston sticks together, and that's the main thing. One neighbor doing something for another neighbor."

Taylor said the church lost electronics, school and office supplies and furniture. The church does not have flood insurance, Taylor said.
