Food Mart owner kills would-be robber during shootout in northwest Harris County

HOUSTON – A robbery suspect is dead after a shootout with the owner of a Food Mart in northwest Harris County, deputies said. 

According to investigators, a masked man walked into the store in the 13700 block of Cedar Point Drive around 11 p.m. Thursday. The man, with a gun in his hand, demanded money, investigators said.

Deputies said that when the armed man was distracted by another person in the store, the owner pulled out a gun. The would-be robber started shooting and the owner shot back, deputies said. 

The robber was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The owner was also shot. He was taken to a hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

Deputies are looking for a woman who was in the store in a hooded sweatshirt. Investigators said they believe the woman might have been the getaway driver. She was seen leaving in an SUV, deputies said.
