2 charged with capital murder after shooting man during drug deal, dumping body, police say
Homicide investigation underway after body discovered
HOUSTON – Charges have been filed against two men who authorities said are responsible for the death of a 20-year-old man on March 23.
Manuel Antonio Rivas, 21, and Isaiah Nealy, 20, have both been charged with capital murder.
Marquis Collier was walking home from the bus stop on Thursday when he took a shortcut through a field and noticed something out of the ordinary at 12100 Murr Way around 5:45 p.m.
He told police he smelled a foul odor and saw dirty clothing.
"I seen like an object, like a circular object," Marquis Collier said. "I looked at the face and I was like, 'Oh, this is an actual human body.'"
The teen went home and told his mom, and the two of them called 911.
Officers found the body of 20-year-old Jedediah Humphreys in an advanced state of decomposition.
"And when they came, we took them over there to the park and, sure enough, there was a head on the ground. About 5 to 6 feet away was the body, tucked in the bushes," Deneese Collier said.
Marquis says from the looks of it, it's been in that field for a while.
"It looked like it had been there for some months," Marquis said.
Authorities said Humphreys met with Rivas and Nealey for a drug deal.
They said Rivas and Nealeyrobbed and shot Humphreys while he was inside a vehicle. The men then drove Humphreys' body to a heavily wooded area on Murr Way, behind a public park. His body was left there.
Rivas and Nealey were in the Harris County Jail on unrelated charges when they were identified as the suspects in Humphreys' murder, according to police.
The men were charged on Thursday.
