Man charged with capital murder in shooting death of 10-month-old boy

HOUSTON – An arrest was made in connection with the shooting death of a 10-month-old Houston boy last week, according to police.

Houston police said Jared Balogun, 24, was charged with capital murder in connection with the June 14 death of Messiah Marshall. They said Balogun confessed to the crime during an interview by detectives in connection to charges that are unrelated to this case.

He was arrested Monday.

Two other suspects are sought in the case.

Investigators said a 22-year-old man was taking out his trash and helping with his son, Messiah, walk at Nob Hill East Apartments when three men approached him. One of them began firing, killing the child.

Police said that while the motive of the shooting is still under investigation, it is possible that it was in retaliation for a previous altercation.

Investigators said it is possible there are other people who were also involved in the shooting.
