Four children were shot Sunday at an apartment complex in north Harris County.
Deputies were called around 10:30 p.m. to the Parkwood at Cypress Station Apartments in the 500 block of Cypress Station for reports of a shooting.
Investigators said there was an argument between the group of children, ranging in age from 12 to 16, and another group. Someone pulled out a gun and started shooting, deputies said. At least 10 shots were fired, according to investigators.
A 16-year-old girl was shot in the head, deputies said. She is in critical condition. Three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. A boy,13, was shot in the hand. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the face.
Two of the children were taken to Hermann Medical Center, one was taken to Hermann Woodlands and the fourth was taken to Hermann Northwest.
The injured children were not armed, investigators said.
The shooter got away.
Cell phone video taken by a resident in the apartment complex showed the aftermath of the shooting.
Neighbors said they knew something bad was going to happen when they saw about 40 children gathered near the apartment mailboxes.
"We drove up, and I saw a bunch of kids there, and I told him, something's about to happen," said a neighbor, Lisa, who did not give her last name.
Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from a fight over a girl.
"I pulled up at the gate last night and they were arguing over a girl last night. And so we told them to go right, but low and behold an hour later, they're back ganged up like this. I leave and I find out they're shooting," resident Cali Williams said.
"It's the same old scenario, every summer around this time when school is out this has always been a problem," resident Howard Lanier said.
Neighbors said they've seen the same kind of violence plenty of times before. They said the new security and curfews are just not enough to end it.
Investigators said they are talking to witnesses, but the stories inconsistent.
No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information about the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
