Woman seeks 'pretty nice' compensation after truck stolen from dealership

HOUSTON – A woman who brought her truck into a dealership for repairs learned it had been stolen.

That's just the beginning of the story.

Elizabeth McClung is not happy about the dealership's reaction and she's telling everyone about it on social media.

What McClung has done is essentially crowd source her complaint against Sterling McCall.

"I'm in bit of a mess, but before I get to that I want you to be sure to like and share this video," she said.

McClung went live with her complaint on Facebook on Monday.

Since then, it's gotten 26,000 views and more than 300 comments.

Last month, she took her 2008 Toyota truck to Sterling McCall for a maintenance estimate. While it was there, a thief stole it. When police recovered the truck, it was a mess.

"Extensive body damage. The entire back windshield is gone. There's dents all over entire vehicle," McClung said.

She says the dealership wasn't helpful. She said her phone calls weren't returned and that employees were disrespectful. Negotiations dragged out for weeks.

"I wasn't getting anywhere with what I needed and I needed ... apart from being treated respectfully ... . I needed the situation fixed," she said.

She said that changed after her Facebook post. The dealership is offering to pay $6,000 for her 9-year-old truck that had 195,000 miles on it. She says that's not enough.

"The way they treated me and handled this situation, I'd like to see them try to make this right by offering something pretty nice," she said. "I'd like a new car."

In a written statement, Sterling McCall Vice President Pete Delongchamps regretted that McClung's car was stolen. He said the dealership actually offered her double what the car's worth -- a total of $12,000, but that McClung and her attorney refused the offer.
