2 men sentenced for selling guns stolen in Carter's Country heist

HOUSTON – Two men who were found in possession of stolen firearms have been sentenced to time in federal prison after pleading guilty to being felons in possession of a firearm, according to authorities.

Anthony D. Cannon was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison and Tony L. Watkins was sentenced to 57 months. Both men will be required to serve three years of supervised release after their prison term.

On March 1, 2016, around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to an alarm at a Carter's Country store in Houston. When officers arrived, authorities saw the front door had been busted open and the business had been ransacked.

A truck backed up to the business and a person connected a chain from the truck to the doors and pulled the doors off the building.

Police said about 11 people ran inside the store and stole 84 firearms.

Cannon, 21, and Watkins, 24, were arrested when police set up surveillance after learning that some of the stolen firearms were being sold. Both men were found in possession of several of the stolen firearms. As convicted felons, both men are prohibited from possessing a firearm.
