Cemetery faces criticism over signs advertising available gravesites

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – An advertisement at a east Harris County cemetery is getting strong reaction Thursday night.

Several signs have been placed in the cemetery saying space is available.

The signs are scattered around the San Jacinto Cemetery near I-10 and Nimitz Road.

A Channel 2 viewer first alerted us to the bright yellow signs, suggesting they are in poor taste.

For one woman, who has relatives buried at the cemetery, she says the advertisement is inappropriate at best.

We reached out to cemetery officials. They tell us the signs are placed in areas where people visiting the gravesites might be interested in purchasing a plot. The sign is getting mixed reviews on the KPRC Facebook page.

One viewer said:

"They have to sell it somehow. If it offends you don't buy it."

Another viewer said:

"It's their decision but I kinda feel that's in bad taste. Maybe one very visible sign would be better."
