HOUSTON – The driver of a chuck wagon took a tumble during a race at RodeoHouston on Monday night -- eerily similar to an incident last year.
The driver was rounding a turn when he fell from his seat.
Seconds into the turn, the momentum caused him to fall. His shoulder was the first thing to hit the ground.
"I just see everyone screaming and I saw the guy on the floor and the trailer was about to run over him. But the horses ended up going outside of him," Jennifer Pluma said.
He remained on the ground while the other riders and the empty wagon made a full lap. Officials were able to stop the race just after the driverless wagon narrowly avoided hitting the driver on the ground.
"Lost his balance, fell over. Pretty much head first. But I think he's going to be just fine. Seeing them take him away he was moving his legs well. It was very ugly to look at. Immediately brought all the fans to their feet," Mike Barber said.
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials said the driver was in stable condition, but was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Two horses pulling the wagon fell. Both horses walked out of the rodeo arena and were examined by a veterinarian, officials said.Â
One horse had a small scratch and muscle soreness. The other horse had no injuries.
Both were released to their owners and were cleared to perform in upcoming events, Rodeo officials said.Â
The driver and all the horses involved are expected to be OK.
