Deaths of Galveston businessman, wife are murder-suicide, police say

GALVESTON, Texas – Galveston police said Tuesday the deaths of a long time island businessman and his wife appear to be the result of a murder-suicide.

The bodies of Byron Everts, 91, and his 40-year-old wife, Dulce, were found by Everts’ son about 11 a.m. Monday inside the home in the 7600 block of Beluche Drive.

Police said an investigation revealed that Byron Everts shot his wife in the chest with a small revolver and then shot himself in the chest.

Both died at the scene, police said.

The motive for the shooting is still being investigated, police said.

Bryron Everts owned extensive real estate holdings on Galveston Island, and operated several businesses there dating back to the 1940s.
