Houston-based promoter sues Young Jeezy for backing out of December concert

HOUSTON – Attorney Troy Wilson found himself at a loss and confused over why rapper Young Jeezy did not perform in Houston in December last year.

Wilson's client promoted the concert, Wilson says, and Jeezy blew it off.

"I guess he decided he wasn't going to do it," Wilson said. "It just didn't make sense to us."

A lawsuit concerning the canceled concert was filed last week in federal court.

Jeezy, or Jay Jenkins, is being sued by promoter Daryl Austin.

"To take our money and simply say, 'Hey, I'm Young Jeezy. I don't have to do it.' Well, in our country, it doesn't work like that. At the end of the day, he'll learn that it does not work like that," Wilson said.

The concert was scheduled for Dec. 9 at the Arena Theater, according to the lawsuit.

The suit alleges Jeezy and his team agreed to a $30,000 deposit and then $30,000 more.

"Tickets were selling. He was advertising it on his site," Wilson said.

In November, the suit claims, Jeezy's camp began to back off on performing.

"There was some discussion about how the stage goes around. He didn't want the stage to go around, so we agreed that it would not rotate," Wilson said.

The lawsuit also alleges Jeezy's camp even demanded more money.

First, the promoter obliged. He would do anything to get Jeezy onto the stage.

"We offered to reschedule because the tickets were selling briskly. He's popular here in the Houston area," Wilson said.

That didn't work, either, and the concert had to be canceled.

Wilson alleges Jeezy's camp failed to reimburse the $30,000 deposit.

They want that back as well as other expenses that are outlined in the suit.

"You give folks their money back. If he had given the money back, there wouldn't be an issue," Wilson said.
