HOUSTON – Road construction crews worked on Almeda at Old Spanish Trail just east of NRG Park Wednesday afternoon.
It is a crossroad and major intersection just east of the site of the biggest NFL football game on the face of the planet. Le Donut sits right on the corner.
The manager said she did not know when the construction would finally be complete. She believed it would be before the big game.
Manager Anna Meng said, "It's been about four or five months…from what I hear it would be before Super Bowl. But I don't think so."
The part under construction runs from Old Spanish Trail at the VA hospital to Hermann Park and the Museum District. City records showed the project started in June of last year with a cost of more than $12 million.
It will include street and drain water improvements. There was still steel to lay and concrete to pour. While the city said the contractor is ahead of schedule, when tens of thousands of visitors flood this area, it will not be complete.
The city of Houston said the project should be complete by the end of January 2018. It is a project expected to take 600 days. It was 57 percent complete.
