Men sought in 1981 fatal shooting during robbery at Houston bar

HOUSTON – Crime Stoppers and the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division are asking for the public's help regarding a robbery in 1981 that led to a fatal shooting.

Authorities said Connie Montez was shot and killed during the robbery at a Houston bar in the 12200 block of Hempstead Road at 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 4, 1981.

Two men entered the bar wielding pistols and demanded money from the register, authorities said.

Montez was working as an employee of the bar and got into a struggle with one of the men during the robbery. Authorities said one of the men shot Montez and fled with the other man, along with a large sum of money.

Montez died at the scene from the gunshot wounds, authorities said.

One man is described by authorities as a white male who is 18-25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall with shoulder-length blond curly hair.

The other man is described by authorities as a white male who is 18-25 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with blond hair.

Crime Stoppers said it will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the charging and/or arrest of those responsible in the incident.
