All students safe after Cy-Fair bus catches fire

HOUSTON – A Cy-Fair middle school bus caught fire on Thursday afternoon, according to the school district.

Students from Cook Middle School were on board when the bus burst into flames at the intersection of West Road and Bridgepark.

"We see this huge old fire," said Minh Chou. "It was all really crazy."

All students are safe and were taken to another bus to get home safely, a Cy-Fair ISD spokesperson confirmed to KPRC2.

Chou said he noticed the fire while going to pick up his younger sister. What he did not know was that the school bus in flames was his sister's bus.

"I called my sister and was like, 'Where you at?' She was like, 'Oh, our bus just caught on fire and everything.' We were like, holy crap," Chou said.

Luckily, Chou's sister and everyone else were safe. He said the bus driver noticed smoke and got all students off the bus before flames fully engulfed it.

"She told me it was a little on fire, and the bus driver was like, 'Everyone get off.' As soon as they did, the thing just went poof," Chou said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the district said.
