Eastex Freeway reopens after fiery fatal crash

HOUSTON – A deadly crash and truck fire closed all northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway at Interstate 610 on Wednesday.

The crash, involving a box truck carrying alcohol, was reported around 7 a.m.

According to police, the driver of the truck was exiting the ramp to the North Loop too fast when it flipped over the guardrail and landed on the Eastex Freeway below.

The truck burst into flames with the driver inside. 

The driver, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene, police said.

Police said the driver was on his way to Dallas. 

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

All lanes of the freeway reopened about 12:40 p.m.
