Massive fire destroys El Tiempo restaurant in Katy

KATY, Texas – A restaurant in Katy was destroyed by a massive fire.

The flames broke out around 11:30 p.m. and continued to burn overnight.

Firefighters faced heavy flames and smoke coming from the roof of El Tiempo Cantina in the 21800 block of Kingsland Blvd. They had to cut through bars on the windows during the battle, firefighters said. At one point, the roof of the restaurant caved in.

El Tiempo had closed for the day about an hour and half before the fire broke out.

No one was inside at the time of the fire.

The restaurant had been in business for only a few months.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office have eliminated arson or an intentional act as the cause of the fire.
