According to police, Roberts purchased a Hyundai Genesis from Weisner Hyundai in Conroe with a $60,000 check. After a few days, he traded in the Hyundai at Demontrond Jeep for a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.  Roberts paid the difference of the transaction with a $30,000 check.

Following that purchase, Roberts sold the Jeep to another dealership for $37,600, police say. Later, it was discovered that all of Roberts’ checks were returned due to insufficient funds.

At his punishment hearing, the state prosecutor revealed that Roberts had previously filed a claim with his insurance for damage done to a Maserati he rented with credit card stolen from his boss, according to police. Prosecutors showed that Roberts had filed the claim after the rental car company had already repaired the vehicle.

Prosecutors also revealed that Roberts had attempted to trade in a vehicle he did not own at a high-end car dealership.

Roberts had previously been arrested for a DWI, forgery of a financial instrument and theft of property, according to police.
