10-year-old jumps from 2nd-story apartment fire in north Houston

HOUSTON – A 10-year-old boy jumped from the second story of a burning apartment building Sunday night in north Houston, police said.

Emergency crews were called to the Fallbrook Apartments in the 200 block of Plaza Verde Drive for what started as a one-alarm fire, but quickly rose to three alarms.

The boy was forced to jump from a second-floor balcony to escape the flames, firefighters said. The child was taken to the hospital with injuries to his back. He is expected to be OK.

The fire is under investigation.
